Shopify Winter '26: 150+ updates, Sidekick AI, and 'agentic storefronts' - your products pop up in ChatGPT and Perplexity without you touching a single integration.
- Shopify Winter '26: 150+ updates, led by Sidekick AI and 'agentic storefronts' (10 December 2025).
- Products get syndicated to ChatGPT and Perplexity through the Knowledge Base, with no integrations of your own.
- The scale: $14.6 billion in sales over 4 days at BFCM, peaking at $5.1 million a minute.
One hundred fifty updates. Only two of them are worth your attention. Shopify shipped the Winter '26 Edition with Sidekick - an AI assistant that analyzes the store, builds apps, and handles multi-step tasks - and 'agentic storefronts': your products show up on their own inside AI chats (ChatGPT, Copilot, Perplexity), without you touching a single integration.
The effect is calculated. The core of it is where the sale happens. Until now the customer came to the store. Now the store goes to the customer - inside the chat, where they're already asking. The storefront moves one layer inward.
As a small merchant, you stop chasing integrations and SEO tricks (techniques to get found on Google) - the platform handles them for you. But there's a flip side. If your catalog lives inside someone else's AI chat, you lose part of the direct contact with the customer. You gain convenience, you pay with a slice of ownership. The old question, new wrapping.
Sidekick and agentic storefronts are new; the real effect on traffic and margins is still to be measured.
