Managed Markets is dropping support for the scheme where the recipient pays duties on delivery. Merchants who do nothing switch automatically to payment at checkout.
- On August 11 Shopify announced that Managed Markets is ending DDU support in all markets where DDP works. It takes effect on August 24, 2026.
- A merchant who takes no action switches automatically to DDP: the customer pays duties and taxes at checkout.
- Anyone wanting to keep payment on delivery must turn off Managed Markets before August 24.
August 24. If you sell across borders through Shopify, that is a date with consequences, not another notice in the dashboard.
In plain terms: until now the customer saw a lower price on screen and then paid duties to the courier. From here on the whole bill sits at checkout.
The displayed price will look higher and somebody will panic about that. Do the other side of the arithmetic, though. A parcel returned because of a surprise at the door costs you the goods, the shipping both ways and the customer.
Open the dashboard today and see where you stand. Until the 24th you decide. After that the setting decides.
