Spotify introduced Prompted Playlists. You describe in words exactly what you want to hear and set the rules for your own playlist. For the first time, you steer the algorithm, instead of just taking what it hands you.

What's different: the feature uses your entire listening history - 'all the way back to day one', not just the last month. The beta launched in New Zealand (11 December 2025) for Premium. Spotify reports 713 million listeners, 90% of whom say the service is 'essential to their day'. The announcement came from Gustav Söderström (CPO/CTO - head of product and technology).

This has a pulse, because it shifts the power. Until now the algorithm decided, you accepted. Now you hand over the logic in one sentence, the machine executes it. The healthy direction for recommendation systems is from 'guess what I want' to 'say what you want'. The price is the old one - you still feed the system your whole history. Convenience against data.
