Well-Architected Agent is in public preview: it looks at more than 65 services, gives recommendations on cost, security, performance and resilience and returns them as changes for the console, for infrastructure as code or for the command line. Only for customers with a Support plan, first recommendations within 24 hours. No preview price is given.
- Three levels: a single resource with a dollar impact, consolidated findings for an application, architectural patterns with IaC changes.
- Access through the console, the API and the AWS MCP Server from the coding tool of your choice. The agent runs in three US regions; workloads can come from any commercial region.
- AWS Support plan required. Recommendations arrive within 24 hours of creating a profile. The seller writes them.
An instance forgotten since March. A disk nobody reads. Cross-zone traffic nobody ordered. If you have ever paid an AWS bill, you know these lines. Amazon now ships an agent that shows them to you on its own and puts a dollar figure next to the finding where it can.
One thing is easy to pass over: who writes the recommendation. The seller. AWS tells you where you overspend in AWS. Some of the advice will be honest, because a customer who leaves angry costs more than a customer who saved. Some of it will point to the next AWS service. Read both as advice from a salesman who likes you.
The good part is concrete. A dollar next to the finding. A fix you can run, instead of a "best practices" document nobody opens. That is the difference between an audit and a tool.
If you have a Support plan and do not mind the agent sitting in the US, you create a profile and within a day you have a list. No price while it is a preview and until they say otherwise. Then you read the small print, as with anything carrying that word in its name.
