Normally the customer pays the chip supplier. Here it is the other way round. AMD announces it will invest $1 billion in Meta's equity offering. That is how AMD itself puts it in its October 27 announcement.
Fact
The facts: on October 27, 2026, AMD announced an expanded partnership with Meta across CPUs, GPUs, networking, systems and software. AMD will invest $1 billion in Meta's equity offering; the announcement gives no price per share, no share count and no other financial figure. The first AMD Helios rackscale solutions are installed and being tested by Meta, on the path to a broader deployment that AMD places in the near future, with no date. Meta was an early definition customer for the AMD Instinct MI450 architecture and will deploy a custom AMD Instinct GPU optimized for its workloads. It is also optimizing recommendation models on AMD Instinct MI350X GPUs, and the AMD Instinct MI500 series is named among future platforms. According to AMD, Meta has deployed millions of EPYC processors across multiple generations and is a lead customer for 6th Gen EPYC; the two companies are also collaborating on future generations, including Verano. AMD also says it delivered support from day one for Muse Spark Open on Instinct and for Muse Glimmer on Ryzen AI. Lisa Su says the two companies are building and deploying infrastructure at gigawatt scale.
Helios is still in testing: the first racks are installed. Lisa Su talks about gigawatts, but the announcement counts none. AMD's headline carries the word superintelligence for Meta's infrastructure; that word is AMD's. What Meta says, I do not know: I have not opened its page.
Meta builds its own training chip and at the same time tests someone else's racks. Which one carries the load, the end of the test will show, and AMD gives no date for it.
